The Fitzroy Market launched in February 2010 and was set up by Fiona Newton and Louise Irving. The team was determined to establish a space for Fitzroy’s residents and visitors to meet communally and seek, swap or sell their wares, they began by building relationships with community groups. Fitzroy Market has raised awareness, and funds, for programs helping those in need. This passion for social justice has forged bonds with community partners, helping fund important projects to maintain and strengthen the neighbourhood’s support network.

The Fitzroy Market is not driven by a profit motive or trend status, but by the will to create a fun, welcoming atmosphere for all comers, and providing a chance for all members of our richly diverse community to contribute to and gain from the space.

In its first year Fitzroy Market opened to great reception from the community. As soon as it found its feet a strong, regular following began to grow. Relationships have developed with Livewires and the Fitzroy Learning Network. In 2012, the Market is looking to continue to build its profile and popularity and we are looking to extend our hours from 10am-2pm to 10am-3pm.

The market (at Fitzroy Primary School) consists of 15 car boot stalls, 27 standard stalls, 4 food stalls, a kids craft area, and space for musicians and performers.

The market runs between 10am and 2pm!
